The Art Master 3D series is inspired by the desire to create and features a return to the origin of figure making with a classic garage kit spirit. Up next in the line is a unique conceptual representation of a character from a specific scene in the Japanese TV show Ultra Q, Decayed Garamon! An alien cybernetic creature, Garamon crashed to Earth within a “Garadama” meteorite and was controlled from a separate brain unit; upon the cessation of a signal from one to the other the kaiju seemingly died, collapsing with foam pouring from its mouth.

Created by sculptor Ryu Ohyama, a true master of the creature genre, this unique take on the creature captures it in its final resting pose, breaking down in gruesome detail. The theme of Garamon is a lifeless state, and it achieves this through its slumped-over pose, the slack expression on its creepy face, and of course the textures of its spiky body and shriveled limbs.

The original prototype for this presentation was a 5 ½ inch clay master that was CT scanned and converted to 3D in order to capture even the most delicate detail in its final size of nearly 8 inches tall; this was achieved at a specialty factory frequented by Hollywood production studios. Even the material of the statue was chosen specifically to convey the level of detail in the sculpt, as the blow technique poly-resin achieves a texture similar to plastic and recreates all of the thorny details without breakage!
